Dr. Young graduated from the Doctor of Optometry program at the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo in 1978. He started his career in Arnprior where he practiced for 2 years. He established the Barrhaven Optometric Centre in 1979 with a mission to provide the best possible primary eye care and build the practice alongside the growing community.

As a strong advocate for optometry, Dr. Young has served the optometric community as president of the Ottawa Society of Optometrists, as a board and executive member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, and as a chairman of the Occupational Vision Plan Program in Ontario.

Dr. Young received further training in therapeutic pharmaceutical agents from the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo in 2001. He has a keen interest in contact lens practice; serving as a consultant on advisory panels and participating in clinical trials for various contact lens and solution companies.

Dr. Young enjoys living in the community of Barrhaven with his wife, Jackie, where together, they watched their sons Danny and Daryl grow up. Dr. Young is active in sports including hockey, skiing, snowboarding, and golf.

Dr. Gordon Young retired from practice in 2018.
